Artist Bio:My number one goal with my music is to inspire people," states Seattle-based singer/songwriter Meagin Donovan, who is fresh out of the studio with her self-released debut album, No Second Self. "While recording this album, everything came from within; I found inspiration in life experiences, relationships, day-to-day emotions, and, of course, other artists' music and stories. "I'm a self-taught musician and wrote all of the music and arrangements for the album," says Donovan.Meticulously written and recorded, every note was given much attention; the evidence is in the details. With Meagin on keys and guitar, Wayne Porter on percussion and Jerry Brown on bass, No Second Self is tight and funky, with energetic rhythmic nuances that Meagin refers to as "freestyle rhythm guitar." "My guitar style has been called everything from technically intricate to uninhibited," says Donovan, after receiving welcome feedback at her live performances. Donovan's haunting, strong and passionate voice provides a unique and interesting contrast to the otherwise upbeat music creating a truly original sound. Born in Noblesville, Indiana and raised on the sounds of Neil Diamond, Steve Miller Band, Metallica, Michael Jackson, Grateful Dead, Journey and even some Hip Hop, Meagin's eclectic influences are everpresent in her music. Donovan found her true calling to write music during her tenure at Washington State University. Meagin decided to focus on sociology in college because she saw it as a combined opportunity to mesh her songwriting and studies. "I took an entry-level sociology class not expecting anything, but was intrigued by my long-haired, leather coat-wearing biker professor who was wicked smart. I loved the culture around the sociology community and staff...Beer and Jazz," she says with a laugh. "We are free-thinkers." Drawing from influences such as The Dave Matthews Band, Indigo Girls, Ani DiFranco, Ryan Adams, Counting Crows, and Paul Simon's Graceland Album Meagin's acoustic flavor is clearly the main ingredient when defining her music. Meagin Donovan continues to hone her sound at local showcases while tirelessly promoting her album over the New Year. Here is one woman who has the passion and the raw talent to make her dream a reality.
