Artist Bio:
My music is influenced by sixties pop and rock, seventies new-wave, British and American folk and new country. Amongst my favourite bands I would count the Beatles, the Who and the Jam, whilst my favourite folk singer is Nic Jones. Amongst more modern artists, I'd point to the Wailin' Jennys as a band that I really admire. I write my own material, sing and play guitar and harmonica. If there are two words that I would apply to my songs, they are "inventive" and "accessible". I have recently finished my new album, Footprint. I'd like to think that my music appeals to a wide range of ages and tastes. I have a band (drums, bass, electric guitar, backing vocalist etc.), but am also available in a variety of acoustic flavours (just me, my guitar and harmonica, or me plus two or three carefully chosen musicians). ..

When my world breaks down,
When it falls apart
And I’m left alone,
Back here at the start,
Then there’s nothing you can do,
Except hold my hand and love me like you do.
The ticker tape parade
Passed on years ago;
Now the memories fade
Of this old hero,
And there’s nothing you can do
Except hold my hand and love me like you do.
Although my day is done and my battle lost,
I have a precious Jewell beyond any cost.
Though the world is upside-down and sweet luck departs,
You make of silence sound to fill an empty heart.
When I come home at night
Full of deep despair
And I can’t see the light
Shining anywhere
Then there’s something you can do:
You can hold my hand and love me like you do. |

I'm tired of playing childish games,
Of calling names and casting blame,
Of making up, then falling out;
It’s not what I’m about
You were mine to have and hold,
But the passion has gone cold;
So give me back my heart
We’ll live our lives apart.
You go your way and I'll go mine
We'll both be stronger in good time
You'll find me hiding in a crowd
I'm going where the music's loud
And I'll be trying to forget
The years that I regret
You were mine to have and hold,
But the passion has gone cold;
So give me back my heart
We’ll live our lives apart.
Bridge
You go your way and I'll go mine
We'll both be stronger in good time
Instrumental Verse
You go your way and I'll go mine
We'll both be stronger in good time
You were mine to have and hold,
But the passion has gone cold;
So give me back my heart
We’ll live our lives apart. |

Tunes you can whistle and lyrics that will lodge themselves in your memory, Peter Webster’s new album is full of well-constructed songs. From the blissful latin-pop of ‘Felicity’, through the bitter-sweet alt-country of ‘To Have and Hold’, to contemplative singer-songwriter material such as ‘There’s Something (You Can Do)’ and ‘Sweet Songs’, Webster’s voice and guitar weave a distinctive path through this wonderful album. |
