Plunkett: Two And Two Makes Three, But Only When I Scream

Plunkett is a musical and domestic duo with a strong background in the British Folk-Rock Sound. Their 2008 CD, Folk Songs, is replete with melodic, well-produced, and intelligently written songs. There are no surprises here, no shocks to the system. Just fine vocal performances, well-executed playing, and melodies and harmonies that take you along in an enjoyable musical flow. It's a mellow kind of thing, but don't expect it to remain in the entirely acoustic vein. Plunkett knows how to take electronic elements and modern influences and blend them into a tasty concoction without upsetting more conservative sensibilities.

Flies, the selection from the CD that is included here for download, is a bouncy selection with lyrics that often contradict that bounciness. The spirit of the song is a realistic optimism that appeals to me for a lot of reasons. I hope these two never become disillusioned. Like Plunkett, I like to "believe in love" and "believe the stars will always shine", despite all evidence to the contrary.
